And so it is...the Producers Guild Awards have announced their nominees. The same five films that several people are predicting will make it into the Oscar shortlist...
The Curious Case of Benjamin Button
The Dark Knight
Frost/Nixon
Milk
Slumdog Millionaire
Although I currently have WALL-E predicted in my best picture lineup over The Dark Knight, this is looking more and more like the probable shortlist with each passing day. Producers Guild actually only matches an average of 4/5 with the eventual BP lineup. The Directors Guild nominees are a much better indicator and WALL-E is ineligible there. One of these films could very well fall by the wayside. Right now, I'm thinking that Frost/Nixon and The Dark Knight are the two weakest links. But we shall see.
Predicted Winner: I say that this is where The Curious Case of Benjamin Button picks up steam, and makes best picture look like more of a horse race than it actually is. It's the most elaborate production of the five, even The Dark Knight. This is all moot, since Slumdog Millionaire is already going to win best picture. If Slumdog wins here, that pretty much cements it's chances, doesn't it?
